The Sacagawea Dollar launched in 2000 under the United States Dollar Coin Act of 1997. Sculptor Glenna Goodacre designed the obverse, using a young Shoshone college student named Randy’L He-dow Teton (born 1976) as her model.

The 2015 reverse honors Mohawk ironworkers from the Kahnawake and Akwesasne communities.
