2. 2015-P MS60 Blue Ridge Washington Quarter Off-Center Strike Error

Another error you might come across when collecting 2015 quarters is the off-center strike. This is an error in which the design on the obverse and reverse are struck slightly away from the center.

An off-center strike happens when the planchet is not properly centered in the collar, resulting in an offset strike on both sides of the coin. Some of the details will also be weak or missing due to the offset strike.

The value of an off-center strike error largely depends on the percentage of the offset—the greater the percentage, the more valuable the error tends to be. This error occurs when the die strikes the planchet multiple times at different angles, resulting in visible doubling of the inscriptions and designs on the final coin.

4. 2015-P MS63 Louisiana State Quarter Re-Punched Mint Mark Error

5. 2015-P MS60 Saratoga Washington Quarter With a Die Cud Error

A die cud is one of those small errors you can easily add to your coin collection. This error occurs when a small piece breaks off from the die’s surface, leaving behind a small hole. If the die continues to be put to use, the small hole fills with metal.

When the die strikes the planchet, it leaves an impression of the metal-filled hole. The final coin shows die cuds in the form of small, raised bumps or gouges on the coin’s surface.

An error that is quite similar to a die cud is the die chip. While not as dramatic, a die chip can recreate an odd or peculiar image that can in turn draw the attention of collectors.

For example, on some 2015 Bombay Hook quarters, there is a phenomenon known as ‘’two eyes on bird” error. This refers to a die chip error that has resulted in the formation of two eyes on the bird’s image on the reverse of the coin.

A die chip error occurs when a small piece falls off the face of the die leaving a hole that’s eventually filled with metal. When the die strikes the planchet, the metal-filled hole leaves its impression, creating tiny gouges on the coin’s surface.

8. 2015-D MS60 Louisiana “Kisatchie” Washington Quarter Struck Through Error

A struck through is yet another dramatic error that can be worth a fortune. There are various types of struck through errors one of which is the grease struck through error.

A struck-through error is one in which a foreign object is struck between the die and planchet. The object may remain stuck on the final coin or it might fall off, leaving only its impression on the coin.

The grease struck-through error occurs when a layer of grease comes between the die and planchet. The presence of grease obstructs the die from transferring the design onto the planchet, resulting in a coin with blank spots or a smudged design on the obverse or reverse.
